Granvilles Chef Killed in Tragic Hit and Run IncidentAdam JonesOur head Chef and dear friend, Sean Davy, was tragically killed in a 'hit and run' car accident on 27th March. He leaves behind his partner, Claire, and their 21 month old daughter Christina - with whom he was besotted. The closeness of the staff here became apparent as they pulled together and tried to comprehend the terrible news; in their words " he was a father figure, a brother and a best friend." We were fully booked on Saturday night, but naturally closed the restaurant as a mark of respect - and may I say heartfelt 'thanks' for the understanding of all the customers I telephoned to cancel their tables. We arranged to 're-group' on Monday morning, but before I could sit down for a chat, the boys were in the kitchen, 'prepping up', getting ready for the week ahead. Sean was one of the most responsible members of staff we have ever employed; he had a very competent and experienced kitchen team who always maintained his high standards on his 'days off' - we are very proud to assure customers that they will continue to receive the same high quality they have come to expect from Granvilles. We are all determined to channel our grief into something positive - he adored his daughter, who had recently been given the 'all-clear' by Birmingham Children's Hospital, and it was a unanimous decision by all the staff that we should open a bank account for her to, hopefully, provide some extra help in the future; and we will therefore, be holding several fundraising events in the following months and years - any further contributions form the public will be gratefully recieved.
